A cavalry version of the Sharps Rifle, these weapons featured prominently in the Indian Wars in the years following the US Civil War. They feature an unusual hand-cranked grinder in the stock, designed to grind corn or wheat. This was the most popular weapon with Union cavalry regiments up to the mid-1800s.
