A primitive battleaxe, this weapon is often called the sparthe, pale-axe, sparr axe, or hafted axe. The Danish axe is the quintessential Viking axe— a wide, thin blade, and a long 3'–4' haft. The blade has a pronounced heel and toe, making the shape almost horn-like.
